René Lapierre has proudly represented Ward 6 since 2014, bringing decades of experience in public service, healthcare, education, and community leadership. Born and raised in Greater Sudbury, René is committed to listening to residents, understanding their concerns, and working together to find practical solutions.

Whether meeting residents at community events, walking through neighbourhood, or chatting over coffee at Tim Hortons, René remains accessible, responsive, and ready to help. He continues to advocate for responsible growth, strong infrastructure, safe communities, and a better future for Ward 6 and Greater Sudbury.
Complete the Valley East Multi-Ice Pad Complex
With $15 million in federal and provincial funding committed, René wants to move the Valley East Multi-Ice Pad Complex into its final design and construction phase.

Improve Ditching & Drainage Maintenance
More frequent and severe weather events are putting added pressure on Ward 6 roads, ditches, culverts,
and drainage systems.
René wants the City to take a more preventative approach by improving ditching programs, clearing
culverts regularly, and better maintaining drainage systems before flooding and property damage occur.
Better Roads & Preventative Maintenance
Residents across the Valley continue to ask for better road maintenance and faster road repair.
René believes the City must continue investing in road improvements while placing a stronger focus on
preventative maintenance that extends the life of existing infrastructure and helps address problems before
they become more costly.
Practical Solutions to Homelessness
René believes everyone deserves a safe place to call home.
Reducing homelessness requires more affordable and geared-to-income housing, stronger partnerships
with community organizations, and continued collaboration with Provincial and Federal governments to
secure funding and support practical solutions.
Accomplishments
René's record on Council includes investments in recreation, roads, seniors’ services, social supports, and emergency services. Here are some of the projects and initiatives he is most proud to have supported.
Recreation & Community Spaces
From securing $15 million toward the Valley Twin Pad to supporting new recreation facilities, accessible spaces, and community projects, René has worked to strengthen the places where residents gather, play, and connect.
Supporting Seniors
René supported the Pioneer Manor expansion, seniors’ housing redevelopment, and permanent funding for the Community Paramedicine program that helps provide care to seniors at home.
Roads & Infrastructure
René supported traffic-calming measures requested by residents, major intersection improvements, the live “Follow My Plow” service, and significant wastewater infrastructure investments.
Social Services
René helped secure a permanent location for the Hanmer Food Bank and supported transitional housing and enhanced shelter services for people facing homelessness, mental health challenges, and addictions.
Emergency Services
René supported investments in volunteer firefighter training, additional paramedics, additional police officers, and emergency-services station redevelopment.
