Ward 6 enhancements 2014 - 2018

 

  • Working with staff on a speed control plan for Elmview
  • Installed a new stop sign on Jeanne D'arc & Heritage
  • Resurface Hydro road 
  • Worked with multiple residents to provide guidance and support in the land rezoning application
  • Ongoing work with staff to ensure replacement of fencing at various parks
  • Worked with 4 Lakes Community Association to help enhance their gravel road and ditching maintenance
  • Enhanced the Howard Armstrong Recreation Center with a new fully accessible customer service desk & family/universal change room
  • 5 new playgrounds were selected addition or replacement; Rose Court, Farmdale, Lyons Park, Nature`s Haven, Howard Armstrong
  • Replaced full outdoor rink boards and fencing in Farmdale subdivision
  • Approved the design of a new twin pad arena in Hanmer
  • Approved funding for enhanced Dominion Drive from MR80 to Elmview Drive with new sidewalks
  • In partnership with private donor installed outdoor basketball court with rubber flooring at Howard Armstrong

Council accomplishements 2014 - 2018

  • Repealed the store hours bylaw
  • Hired an integrity commissioner
  • Approved the integration of a “whistleblower” policy 
  • Was host to an episode of the "Amazing Race Canada"
  • Construction of Maley drive extension
  • 4 laning of MR35
  • Upgrades to Lorne street from Elm to Power street
  • Approved $10 million dollars in culvert and bridge rehabilitation
  • Approved over $300 million dollars in capital roads project which is (an increase of over $160 million from past councils)
  • Increased roads operating budget by 10%
  • Approved water/wastewater capital investments of almost $160 million dollars ($20 million increase since 2014)
  • Completed 16kms worth of cycling infrastructure
  • Approved 8.5kms of new sidewalks
  • Donated $1 million dollars to the HSN "P.E.T." scanner
  • Provided $750 thousand toward Maison McCulloch Hospice expansion
  • Invested $5 million dollars in the "Place des Arts" project 
  • Approved the construction of the Kingsway Entertainment District 
  • Secured funding for the Capreol CIP (Community Improvement Project)
  • Approved the playground revitalization plan in partnership with the United Way. 12 playgrounds in 2018 (1 in each ward) and 46 others over the next 2 to 3 years
