OUR CITY. OUR FUTURE.

Meet René Lapierre

For me, public service has never been about politics. It has always been about people.

Since being elected to Greater Sudbury City Council in 2014, I have remained committed to listening to residents, understanding their concerns, and finding practical solutions. Whether we connect at a community event, on a neighbourhood street, over the phone, or during a coffee chat at Tim Hortons, I believe every conversation matters.

Rooted in Our Community

I was born and raised in Azilda and have spent my life serving the community I call home. My wife Melissa and I have been married since 1995. We are proud parents of Kyle, Kassandra, and Karissa, and proud grandparents of two wonderful grandchildren.

Since 2002, our family has called Valley East home. Our roots here run deep, and I remain committed to protecting the quality of life that makes Ward 6 and Greater Sudbury so special.

A Career of Service

I graduated from Cambrian College’s Paramedic Program in 1992 and completed my Advanced Care Paramedic education in 2000. I served as a frontline paramedic until 2014, gaining valuable experience in emergency services, healthcare, crisis management, and compassionate care.

In 2002, I joined the Health Sciences Faculty at Collège Boréal. Since 2008, I have served as Program Coordinator for its Primary Care Paramedic and Advanced Care Paramedic programs.

These roles have strengthened my experience in:

  • Leadership and team development
  • Strategic planning and budgeting
  • Operational management
  • Public accountability
  • Compassionate decision-making

Serving Ward 6 Since 2014

It has been an honour to represent Ward 6 and serve the broader Greater Sudbury community.

Through my work on Council and numerous municipal, provincial, and community boards, I have developed a strong understanding of municipal finance, infrastructure, policy development, emergency services, and responsible governance.

I believe leadership begins with listening, building trust, and working together. The best results happen when residents, businesses, community organizations, City staff, and Council collaborate toward a shared goal.

My Commitment to You

As your Councillor, I will continue to advocate for:

  • Smart and responsible growth
  • Strong, reliable infrastructure
  • Responsible financial management
  • Safe and vibrant communities
  • Transparent and accountable government
  • Accessible and responsive representation

Most importantly, I will continue to be a Councillor who listens.

Let’s Talk

If you see me at a community event, walking through the neighbourhood, or sitting at Tim Hortons, don’t hesitate to stop and say hello.

I’m always happy to hear your ideas, discuss your concerns, and work together toward solutions—because our future is strongest when we build it together.

OUR CITY. OUR FUTURE.

Thank you for your trust, your support, and the opportunity to continue serving Ward 6 and Greater Sudbury.
